USB upload problems

This seems to be a new problem with the current test MPIDE or at least I do not remember the problem before.

If I load a program into the chipkit uno that uses the serial port for debugging (and opens a serial connection between the chipkit and the computer) I need to disconnect and replug the USB cable each time I want to upload the program.

There has to be a better way, this is really annoying having to unplug and re-plug over and over. It does not help to close the serial monitor before trying an upload.

Unfortunately this is by design... The Serial(1) pins must be unplugged during program upload. It sucks thou. :(

The workaround is to not use the Serial for anything other than communication with a computer. Insert a cable and the program doesn't upload...

I incorporated a double pole switch on the TX/RX , just have to remember to change it ...

I am using both serial ports on the uno so have to disconnect while uploading, all i have done is to route the serial tx/rx pins from pins J6-0 J6-1 to the common of a two pole switch. ON side goes to my serial module OFF is unconnected. ( actually its a small DIL switch).

But you still have to disconnect any cables in the pin 0/1 first?

No.. If they were longer wires I guess they could cause a problem but the switch is just 5cm from the tx rx pins. the uno sits on an interface strip board ( like a shield ) see my picture ... http://www.chipkit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=977
