Winblows version of MPIDE

G'day Guy's, Hopefully my max32 board will be here soon and I can start working on my comp entry. I downloaded the winblows version of MPIDE and found when I ran the .exe file it just started rather than install the IDE. One would of thought the IDE would of done a complete install as to setup up the USB port etc but as it didn't nothing has changed in the device manager. It could be that when the board finally arrives I can point to the MPIDE folder and the USB driver will be found there.

          It just seems strange that no install happened so this all normal or is something amiss with the GITHUB download.

You bring up a good point, but for Windows you only need the 3rd party FTDI drivers. These files are located in the extracted zip file.

If you want to get them from FTDI you can get them here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

With the many kinds of Arduino based boards it's sometime not required. However, for the Uno32, and the Max32 you will want to install these drivers.

If your running Win7 the FTDI driver may already be on the computer or at least I think it will be found and downloaded from MS automatically.

One of the biggest problems with Windows applications is the fact that they require complex installation when its not always needed.

The FTDI drivers are a 3rd party program and not written or maintained by any of the people supporting Arduino or MPIDE. This is why it is a separate installation.

I feel that one of the great things about Arduino IDE and the MPIDE is that they do not require complex installation.
