chipKIT Wi-Fire + DP83848I Ethernet Problem

Hi,

Has anyone else tried to use an external PHY to create an Ethernet connection with the chipKIT Wi-FIRE? As a project needs to have a PIC32MZ configured with Ethernet in MII, I took out some of the pins of the Wi-FIRE according to the specification and connected it into the DP83848 MII pins. Currently, a direct read of the EMAC1MRDD register of the PIC32 yields only 0x0000FFFF, which does not change regardless of the register address (which should not be because some bits should be unassigned therefore read 0).

Is there a way to implement a working Ethernet with the Wi-FIRE? (though I sure hope Digilent makes an Ethernet-based PIC32MZ board in the future)

Hello Sylar,

Sorry about the delay. I was going through old unanswered questions and found your question. I am unfamiliar with the DP83848 but we do have a Ethernet Pmod. Using the ethernet Pmod and the associated library should be pretty easy to get going.
