My name is Hanno (guess that is obvious) and I am from South Africa.

I have always been a Windowze user who has recently switched to Ubuntu Linux. Very steap lerning curve for me !

I have an interrest in electronics and was introduced to chipKit by a friend after I started making enquiries about Arduino.

I am having some issues that I will post in the proper section.

Hoping to learn a lot from all you smart people out here.

Welcome, Hanno. It's always nice to see new faces.

You should look out for Ian Billing (though I haven't seen him for a while), he's a fellow South African.

I think you'll prefer Ubuntu to Windows in the long run. Windows isn't an environment I particularly like. Great for word processing and playing games or browsing the web (and getting infected with viruses), but not for any serious work :)

I will use this thread to introduce myself as well: I am German, live close to Basel and am an IT manager for a large IT company. I work with the Arduino platform since about two years now and like to make electronics for education and kids, especially my own son at the age of 14. I am currently designing a board using the PIC32MX250F128B that is through hole based to make it solder-able for kids and newcomers (see the matching hardware thread). I participate in a small but agile maker group around the boxtec.ch shop owner. I use the UECIDE as it appears to me to be the superior combination of the Arduino IDE and the MPIDE. I also use the MPLAB X environment but with the educational audience in mind, the UECIDE is probably the best. I will keep you updated with the board once the final PC have been received from OSH
