Hi.

Last year I bought one of these units with the intention of using it to develop PIC32 support in my PICMicro programmer found at http://k8048.kewl.org/

Well, it's been a bit longer than anticipated but I finally got around to it.

I used my tool to update the firmware to the latest found at: https://github.com/chipKIT32/PIC32-avrdude-bootloader

If you do update the firmware then please understand I can't be responsible if anything goes wrong and you will need to reboot the R-PI (currently at least) to return the UART feature to the GPIO pins to talk to the bootloader.

Later I will see about making some project templates to bypass using the IDE.
