I have developed an open source mobile robot that I have named Apeiros. This new robot is based upon the UNO32 development board, so that additional shields can be developed and used to meet various application requirements. Apeiros' body base is going to be injection molded, so that overall cost is kept to a minimum while providing a great robot base. Please take a look at my Kickstarter launch if you interested in supporting this new robot!

Very cool project... I'm trying to clear up some issues with my Amazon payments so I can pledge, but its not looking good for your project... I would love to have one of these for my Microprocessor class that I teach using the Fubarino SD.

Jacob,
If this Kickstarter is not funded, then I intend to proceed with a 3D printed body version and will manufacture it in low quantities. This will also give me more time to continue to refine the body design, so that injection mold tooling can be pursued in the future. I have already learned a fair amount as a result of producing a Kickstarter project and it has been fun!
I just purchased a 3D printer that should arrive in March sometime and I will use this to produce robot bodies in low quantities.

Abe,
Let us know when the 3D printed one is available so that I can pick one up for my class. We start in a couple of weeks and go for about 16 weeks.

Abe,
I don't know why, but if you go to Kickstarter and search for Arduino or chipKIT your project does not show up. If you search for robot it does.

Jacob, sorry for not responding earlier. My 3D printer is not going to arrive until sometime in March. I'll be sure to let you know when I get my printer up and running.

Well, I finally purchased the injection mold tooling and decided to execute a 2nd Kickstarter campaign in order to generate initial sales. In order to get the cost of goods lower I went with the recently released Nucleo Development Board. I offer the Apeiros Body Kit for $55 and that would allow someone to add their microcontroller board and could decide to use the UNO32. Once I get this project off the ground I am thinking that I will offer several versions of my robot and these will use different "brains" such as the UNO32 and maybe even a Raspberry Pi. I just wanted to share this with those who might be looking for a fully open source robot with a servo gripper. Thanks again for taking a look at my project.
